BS 3262-1:1989 Hot-applied thermoplastic road marking materials — Part 1: Specification for constituent materials and mixtures is a historical standard and was withdrawn in 2000. It has been indirectly replaced by 3 harmonised European standards. The current standards at the time of writing are:

  • BS EN 1871:2000 Road marking materials – Physical properties
  • BS EN 1423:2012 Road marking materials – Drop on materials – Glass beads, anti-skid aggregates and mixtures of the two
  • BS EN 1424:1998 Road marking materials – Premix glass beads

The BS 3262-1 defines the materials and mixtures for road markings and their physical properties. It sets out tests and minimum requirements for the the materials and mixtures to ensure that the products will work on application.

Testing can be done to this withdrawn specification but will only be useful for a manufactures in-house data or if their client requests it. For certification though, testing to the new standards will be needed.
