Sealants being certified to the above specification are applied to the materials they are intended to be used on, i.e. mortar, aluminium or glass and left to cure for just short of a month. Some are then subjected to a cycle of dry heat and submerged in room temperature. The sealants on their substrates are then submerged in water for 4 days, dried for a day and then tested.
The testing involves tearing the samples apart while recording the forces and amount the sealant stretches before breaking or pulling off the material it is applied to.
