Accuracy and Reliability with 4ward Testing
We understand that ensuring the reliability and performance of plastic components is critical across diverse industries. At 4ward Testing, we specialize in providing definitive tensile strength testing services to ensure material integrity and reliable results.
This analysis accurately determines tensile strength—the maximum force a material can withstand before fracture or yielding—and elongation at break or yield—the material’s ability to stretch before failure.
These properties are fundamental for selecting and validating the optimal rigid plastics and reliable results ensure they meet the specific performance demands of their intended applications.
Fundamentals of Tensile Strength Testing at 4ward Testing
At 4ward Testing, we provide rigorous tensile testing services, as part of our mechanical testing services, to evaluate material durability and mechanical performance. Our repeatable methods ensure precise, standardised assessments for quality assurance l and compliance.
Our Approach to Tensile Testing
- Precise Specimen Preparation – We prepare test specimens to standardised dimensional requirements, ensuring consistency across all tests.
- Validated Equipment – Our universal testing machines apply controlled tensile forces with high precision and proven reproducibility to measure material behaviour under stress.
- Detailed Data Collection – Throughout the test, the material’s response is being recorded by the software, generating a stress-strain curve that reveals key mechanical properties and material’s response to applied forces
- UKAS accreditation for both ASTM D638 and ISO 527– ensuring the laboratory practices are in line with latest industry standards and continuously improved
- Flexibility – if your end use requires something that deviates from the standard we are happy to discuss and accommodate
What is Measured and recorded
- Tensile Strength – The Stress applied to the material throughout the test including either maximum force, yield, breaking strength or a combination.
- Elongation at Break – The material’s ability to stretch before rupture, indicating flexibility and ductility.
- Strain – if more than just “elongation at break” is required, strain is mapped against the stress to assess the “stretch” as force is applied for assessing modulus or simply defining where a material changes from being elastic to yielding where damage starts to occur
Industry Standards & Accreditation
4ward Testing adheres to UKAS-accredited methods but is happy to deviate where required, ensuring compliance with:
- ASTM D638 – Standard test method for tensile properties of plastics
- BS EN ISO 527 – International standard for determining tensile properties of plastics
By partnering with 4ward Testing, you gain accurate, repeatable, and fully traceable results, supporting product development, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
Tensile Testing for Rigid Plastics: Precision and Compliance
Plastics are integral to numerous industries, and selecting the right material is crucial for performance and safety. 4ward Testing offers comprehensive tensile testing services tailored to support sectors such as construction, automotive, packaging, medical devices, and electronics.
Each industry will have its own defining standards that often pair up environmental exposures to assess your materials resistance to various contaminants or scenarios, we offer an array conditions from chemical exposures to solar simulation and specialise in replicating a variety of real world or standardised conditions.
Additionally, our expert technicians conduct detailed failure analysis to determine the root cause of product failures. With our experienced technicians and UKAS accredited testing services, 4ward Testing provides accurate, reliable, and comparable results, empowering manufacturers to improve and monitor product quality and achieve regulatory compliance.
