What is UKAS accreditation?
UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) is the national accreditation body for the UK.
UKAS accreditation demonstrates that a testing laboratory has been independently assessed and found to be technically competent, impartial, and operating in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 17025. Choosing a UKAS-accredited laboratory means you can trust the results you receive.
Is 4ward Testing UKAS accredited?

What is ISO/IEC 17025?
ISO/IEC 17025 is the international standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. It specifies requirements for both management and technical competence, ensuring that accredited labs consistently produce valid, traceable results.
It is the benchmark standard used by regulators, certification bodies and customers worldwide when assessing a laboratory’s reliability.
How do I know which testing standard applies to my product?
This is one of the most common questions we receive, and it’s where our expertise adds real value. What is the difference between accredited and non-accredited testing?
Accredited testing is conducted within a quality management system independently verified by UKAS. The results carry formal recognition and are accepted by regulators, certification bodies, and international markets.
Non accredited testing may still be technically sound, but does not carry the same independent assurance. We offer both, depending on your requirements.
Do you work to BSI, ASTM, ISO and other standards?

What types of microbiological testing do you offer?

Mechanical Testing
What mechanical testing services does 4ward Testing provide?

What is tensile testing and what does it measure?

What is impact testing?
Impact testing measures how a material or product responds to a sudden, high-energy force, assessing toughness, brittleness, and energy absorption. It is widely required in aerospace, automotive, and construction sectors.
Can you test non-standard or unusual products?

What is creep testing?
Creep testing measures the tendency of a material to deform slowly and permanently under sustained stress, particularly at elevated temperatures. It is critical for engineering plastics and structural materials where components must maintain their dimensions over long periods under load.

What is salt spray testing and who needs it?

Can you simulate extreme temperatures?

What is humidity testing used for?

The Testing Process - What To Expect
How do I get started with 4ward Testing?

One of our test engineers will discuss your requirements, including the nature of your product, the testing you need, any applicable standards, and your timeline. From there we’ll provide a quotation and agree a testing schedule.
What information do you need before providing a quote?
Useful information to have ready includes a description of your product or material, the tests or standards you believe are required (or the outcome you’re trying to demonstrate), the number of samples you can provide, and your desired timeline. If you’re unsure about any of these, don’t worry, our team will help you work through it.
How do I send samples to your laboratory?
Once testing is confirmed, we will provide clear instructions on sample packaging and submission. Samples can be delivered by courier or post to our laboratory in Petworth.
International shipments are accommodated and we’ll advise on handling for large or fragile items.
How many samples will you need?
The number of samples required depends on the specific tests and the applicable standard. Some tests require a minimum number of replicates to generate statistically valid data. We’ll confirm the exact sample requirements when we review your project.
What do I receive at the end of testing?
You will receive a formal test report detailing the methods used, the conditions applied, and the results obtained. For accredited testing, the report will carry the UKAS logo and reference the accredited standard. Our reports are clear, traceable, and suitable for submission to customers, regulators, or certification bodies.
Can you keep our project and results confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is standard practice. We do not share client data, product information, or test results with any third party without your consent. We are happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement prior to commencing work if required.
Turnaround Times & Pricing
How long does testing typically take?
Turnaround times vary depending on the type and complexity of testing.
Some tests can be completed and reported within a few days. Longer duration tests such as stability or creep testing run over defined timeframes inherent to the method. We confirm realistic timelines upfront so you can plan accordingly.
Can you accommodate urgent or fast turnaround requests?

How is testing priced?

Is there a minimum order or project size?

Compliance, CE Marking & Certification
Can 4ward Testing help me achieve CE marking?
Yes. CE marking requires demonstrating that your product meets the relevant EU harmonised standards, and test data from an accredited laboratory is a key part of that process.
We have extensive experience supporting manufacturers through CE marking programmes across construction products, personal protective equipment, and other product categories.
What is the difference between CE marking and UKCA marking?
Following the UK’s departure from the EU, the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) mark was introduced for products placed on the Great Britain market.
CE marking continues to be required for products sold in the EU. In many cases, the same underlying test data can support both marks. We can advise on what is needed for your specific product and target markets.
Can your test reports be used for regulatory submissions?
Yes. Our accredited test reports are produced to a standard accepted by regulators, notified bodies, and certification organisations. They are suitable for inclusion in technical files, dossiers, and regulatory applications.
Do you work alongside notified bodies or certification bodies?
Yes. We have experience producing test evidence that is accepted by a wide range of notified bodies and certification organisations. If you have a specific body in mind, let us know and we can confirm compatibility.
